Surety is a credit instrument known as a bond guarantee. A firm called a “surety company” ensures that a corporation called a “principal” will fulfill an obligation to a third party, called an “obligee.”
If the principal does not complete its bonded obligation, the obligee is able to make a claim requiring the surety company to either fulfill the obligation or pay the bond penalty. The surety company has the right to reimbursement from the principal in the case of a paid loss or claim.
